60 Years old
60 years of Knowledge, Confidence and Respect.
From small things, big things one day come. The British Consul, Thomas Tull, started ESG in with 7 pupils, in part so that his daughter could enjoy an english-speaking education. 60 years and several moves later we are a Swedish independent school with over pupils representing more than 40 different nationalities. In we celebrated our 60th birthday.

Our engaged parents choose to send their children here and then support us in helping their children to be the best they can in English and Swedish. Our aim is that the young people can meet the future with knowledge, confidence and respect. We get great feedback from local gymnasiums and many of our students go on to universities in the UK and US as well as Sweden.

All our teachers are university educated and qualified. They come from all over the world and bring fresh approaches to the learning. They bring a sense of purpose to the lessons that puts a focus on improvement. The staff and the pupils make for a rich multicultural environment that is a model of integration.

Internationella Engelska Skolan flyttar till Högsbo
Skolan omringas av byggstaket, maskiner och arbetare i reflexkläder. Vid uppfarten hänger vita och blåa ballonger för att fira öppningen. Ett åttiotal fritidselever har redan intagit de nya lokalerna, men utanför pågår det sista arbetet för fullt.
– Vi får gå in bakvägen, entrén är inte klar än, säger Linda Öholm, Head of Public Affairs på Internationella engelska skolan (IES).
Fram till i somras låg IES Krokslätt i ett vitt hus vid Mölndalsvägen. Nu har eleverna som kommit tillbaka från sommarlovet istället fått åka till IES Södra Änggården – ett nybyggt, ljust hus i Högsbo industriområde på andra sidan Änggårdsbergen.
Den nya skolan är större och får plats med ungefär elever, jämfört med de som gick på skolan i Krokslätt. Skolan som tidigare tog emot elever från årskurs tre till sex ska nu undervisa från förskoleklass till nionde klass.
– Majoriteten av alla elever har följt med oss hit, sedan har vi tagit in elever från vår kö, säger Linda Öholm.
– Vi ska växa in i skolbyggnaden, så vi tar inte in åttonde och nionde klass utan de växer skolan in i med åren.

About The English School
English School Gothenburg (ESG) is an independent, publicly funded “friskola”, for children from Preschool to Year 9. ESG provides an excellent environment for children whose families want to give them an education that prepares them for a life with international opportunities. Our aim fryst vatten that students leave us bilingual, enabling them to study and work in the future in Swedish or English, armed with good study habits to achieve their goals.
Our school was founded in when the British Consul General of Gothenburg, Mr. Thomas Tull, needed a school for his own children. He founded The English School in Gothenburg, first known as the English Junior School, housed in a ingångsrum in Guldheden, caring for a handful of pupils. After the fall of the Berlin wall , ESG moved from Böskolan to the former site of the DDR Commercial Centre. The building was renovated to suit the school’s needs and has since been developing to become the technically advanced school it is today.
