    The BBC's security correspondent Gordon Corera says Swedish authorities have a name for the individual who registered the car which exploded, and that same individual has been identified by an Islamist website as the attacker.

    Our correspondent says that person fryst vatten believed to have originally been from Iraq, but has spent at least three years in the UK, studying at Luton, perhaps longer.

    It is likely that the British säkerhet services will be looking into the significance of his time in the UK and any connections to other individuals, our correspondent adds.

    Sweden has some soldiers deployed in Afghanistan as part of the international military force.

    They called for "mujahideen" - or Islamist fighters - to rise up in Sweden and europe, promising Swedes would "die like our brothers and sisters".

    They also attacked the country for caricatures of the profet Muhammad drawn by Swedish artist Lars Vilks.

    "The mail was about one man," police spokesman Ulf Goranzon told a press conference on Sunday.

    Bombdåden i Stockholm inträffade den 11 december då det skedde två explosioner på Olof Palmes gata respektive Bryggargatan, i båda fallen nära Drottninggatan i Stockholm.[4][5][6] En person hittades döende efter explosionerna.[4] Enligt Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå (TT) ska den döde mannen ha sprängt sig själv till döds, något som också uppgavs av vittnen citerade i Dagens Nyheter.[4] Intill mannen hittades ett misstänkt metallrör och en väska som uppgavs innehålla spikar.[4] Den svenska polisen utredde attentatet som ett terroristbrott[7][8] och Europol klassificerade år bombdådet som islamistisk terrorism.[9]

    Den första explosionen inträffade vid tiden då en vit Audi 80 Avant, som stod parkerad på Olof Palmes gata vid korsningen mot Drottninggatan, exploderade.[4][10] Enligt polisen och brandförsvaret innehöll bilen flera gasoltuber vilket gjorde att flera ytterligare explosioner följde.[4][10] Inga personer skadades vid dessa explosioner.

    On 11 December , two bombs exploded in central Stockholm, killing the bomber.[1][2][3] Swedish Minister for Foreign AffairsCarl Bildt and the Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) described the bombings as acts of terrorism.[1][4]

    Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born Swedish citizen, is suspected of carrying out the bombing.[5][6]

    According to investigations by FBI, the bombing would likely have killed between 30 and 40 people had it succeeded, and it is thought that al-Abdaly operated with a network.[7]

    Europol categorized the attack as Islamist terrorism.[8]
